MEET THE GIRLS! Our
original doe herd consisted of Spanish, Nubian and Kiko. Crossing these with Fullblood Boer bucks
have produced an outstanding set of percentage does and wethers. The does contribute style, height and
angularity, while the bucks have added the thickness and muscularity. In short, the combination judges are looking
for in project wether kids and percentage does. We have
worked hard to provide only the best feed and care for our does and in turn
they work hard for us. The majority of our
does frequently produce three kid crops every two years while we only expect
one per year. It often
seems to be forgotten that although bucks can produce many more offspring in
their productive life, the quality of the does he's breeding plays a crucial
role. The doe contributes half of the
genetics that the offspring receives and therefore doe quality is an important
consideration in any breeding program.
We have worked hard to find and produce does that not only win in the
show ring but also reproduce their best qualities in their kids. Consistency is very important to us. To remain in the herd or be sold as breeding
stock a doe must raise offspring that meet our expectations consistently. If you choose to visit and pick out a doe or
doeling to purchase, we will also be happy to show you mature sisters and
brothers to ensure you will be happy with your choice. Following
are just a few of our does to give you an idea of the quality we require in our
doe herd. The
newest and most exciting additions to White Rail Ranch came when we purchased
Fred and Betty Odel's herd. Donna, Amy,
and Sheba (pictured below). They were
an integral part of Fred and Betty's herd and as we hoped, they have continued
that role at White Rail Ranch. The kids
produced from our first flush with these does and our bucks last year have
spoken for themselves at many shows and competitions. We can hardly wait to see what this fall's flush will bring! |
